What happens when a capacitor is connected to a battery?

A capacitor, when connected to a battery, conducts for awhile but short while after that it acts as an open circuit.

If an uncharged capacitor C is connected to a battery of potential V, then a transient current flows as the capacitor plates get charged. The flow of current from the battery stops as soon as the charge Q on the positive plate reaches the value Q = C × V.

As soon as the charge reaches the value Q = C × V, the electric field between the capacitor plates cancels the effect of the electric field generated by the battery, as a result, there is no further movement of charges.
