The interaction between the two atoms or molecules or ions results in a formation of a chemical bond.
Chemical bonds are of 3 types depending on the interactions.
Types of chemical bonds:
Covalent Bond- The chemical bond formed by the non-metals is called a covalent bond. They are formed by the equal sharing of valence shell electrons and the compound formed are covalent compounds. For example, Ammonia, Nitrogen gas, Chlorine gas, etc.
Ionic Bond- The chemical bond formed by the electrostatic interaction between the oppositely charged ions. This type of bond is also called an electrovalent bond. For example, Sodium chloride( )
Metallic Bond- The chemical bond formed between the metals is called a metallic bond. For example, the bulk of metal atoms is joined via a metallic bond to form a sheet of metal.
