Solution

Chemical bond:

  1. The interaction between the two atoms or molecules or ions results in a formation of a chemical bond.
  2. Chemical bonds are of 3 types depending on the interactions.

Types of chemical bonds:

  1. Covalent Bond- The chemical bond formed by the non-metals is called a covalent bond. They are formed by the equal sharing of valence shell electrons and the compound formed are covalent compounds. For example, Ammonia, Nitrogen gas, Chlorine gas, etc.
  2. Ionic Bond- The chemical bond formed by the electrostatic interaction between the oppositely charged ions. This type of bond is also called an electrovalent bond. For example, Sodium chloride( NaCl)
  3. Metallic Bond- The chemical bond formed between the metals is called a metallic bond. For example, the bulk of metal atoms is joined via a metallic bond to form a sheet of metal.
