What is ideal gas behavior?

Open in App
Solution

Ideal gas equation-

  1. Ideal gases are those gases that obey the ideal gas equation.
  2. At constant T and n, Vα1PBoyle'sLaw
  3. Boyle's law states that at constant temperature and a fixed number of moles, volume is inversely related to pressure.
  4. At constant P and n, VαTCharle'sLaw
  5. Charles law states that at constant pressure and a fixed number of moles, volume is directly related to temperature.
  6. At constant P and T, VαnAvogadroLaw
  7. Avogadro number states that at constant pressure and temperature, volume is directly proportional to the number of moles.
    VαnTPV=RnTP
    PV=nRT where P is the pressure, V is the volume, T is the temperature, n is the number of moles and R is the Universal gas constant.

Characteristics of ideal gas behavior

  1. The particles of gas must have negligible volume.
  2. The particles must have random motion and must follow Newton's Law of motion.
  3. The particles of gas have a perfectly elastic collision with zero loss of energy.
  4. The particles of gases must have the same size and with no intermolecular forces with other gas particles.
