Solution

  1. Sorption is defined as the chemical phenomenon which occurs between two substances.
  2. In sorption there are two substances that are getting attached to other substances so-called sorbate.
  3. The other attaching substance is called sorbent.
  4. In simple words we can say that the simultaneous occurrence of adsorption and absorption is called sorption.
  5. Sorption can occur in two parts as follows: Absorption and Adsorption
  6. Absorption: It is a phenomenon in which an ion, molecule, or any substance, comes together with another substance i.e. solid or liquid, and is completely immersed in that substance.
  7. For example Cotton is completely absorbed in water, milk is completely absorbed by the towel, etc.
  8. Adsorption: It is the surface phenomenon in which the atom, ion, any molecule or substance accumulated on the surface of another substance i.e. may be solid or liquid.
  9. This process does not occur inside the bulk.
  10. For example Silica gel is used for adsorbing the extra moisture.
