Solution

Strain formula

Strain refers to the amount of deformation an object undergoes due to the application of stress. It refers to a measure of the amount of deformation that takes place on an object due to force. The three main types of strain are longitudinal strain, shearing strain, and volumetric strain.

The strain formula is given by

Strain=changeindimensionoriginalvalueofdimension

Or S=xx, where Sis the strain which is unitless as both the numerator and denominator are the same quantity.

x=Change in dimension and x=original dimension.

Thus, the strain formula is S=xx
