Question

What is the central maximum diffraction?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A central maximum on the screen is the brightest central zone of a diffraction pattern. The central maximum is the most intense and widest of the diffraction fringes.
  2. The width of the central maximum is simply the distance between the first order minima on both sides of the screen. The central maxima's width is simply the difference between the positions of the first two minima.
  3. As a result, we will use the expression for the position of minima to obtain the expression for the width of central and secondary maxima.
