Question

What is the error in metre bridge? How can you remove it?

Open in App
Solution

The error in a metre bridge is called the end error. The end error in a metre bridge is due to the following reasons.

  1. There is a scale provided along the bridge wire. The zero of the scale may not start from the point where the bridge wire is connected to the copper strip and 100 cm on the scale may not coincide with the position where the bridge wire touches the copper strip.
  2. Error may be caused by the resistance of the metre bridge wire and the copper strip.

The end error can be removed by repeating the experiment with different known and unknown resistances and taking the mean of the resistances determined.
