Hydrogen:

  • HydrogenH is the first element in the periodic table and the lightest metal known.
  • The atomic number of Hydrogen is 1 and the Electronic configuration of Hydrogen is 1s1.
  • It exists mainly as molecular HydrogenH2named Dihydrogen.

Occurrence of hydrogen:

  • It is the most abundant element in the Universe (about 70% of the total mass of the Universe) and is also very common on the Earth.
  • In a free state, Hydrogen is present in the Gases of the Volcano and the outer atmosphere of the Sun and other stars of the Universe.
  • About half of the Mass of the Sun and some other stars is due to Hydrogen.
  • Jupiter and Saturn mainly consist of Hydrogen.
  • Hydrogen is the third most abundant element on the Earth.
  • On the Earth, Hydrogen is present in several components as with a Combination of Oxygen it forms WaterH2O, Carbon, Sulphur, Nitrogen, and Halogens in the form of Organic matter in plant and animal tissues, Carbohydrate, proteins, etc.
  • Apart from this Hydrogen is also present in the Mineral kingdom e.g Coal, Petroleum, oil, Natural gas, etc.
