An oscillator is a device that produces a periodic, oscillating electronic signal as its output. The output signal can be a sine wave, a triangle wave, or a square wave.
A part of the output voltage is fed back to the input of the oscillator as feedback. Additionally, the input voltage and the feedback are in phase. This is known as positive feedback.
Positive feedback allows maximum gain (increased amplitude of output voltage) and allows for sustainable oscillations.
Hence positive feedback is used in the oscillator.
