Question

What is the value of energy gap in semiconductor?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The order of energy gap in semiconductor band gap (or energy gap) of material is the amount of energy you need to 'invest' in order to move an electron from the valence band into the conduction band.
  2. It is an intrinsic property of every solid.
  3. In contrast to conductors, electrons in a semiconductor must obtain energy to cross the band gap and reach the conduction band.
  4. The energy band gap for semiconductors is in the range 2-3eV.
  5. The following figure shows the energy gap.
