Question

Which Law is obeyed by all dilute solutions?

Open in App
Solution

Dilute Solution:

  • A solution with a large amount of solvent and very little solute is termed a dilute solution.

Concentrated solution:

  • A concentrated solution is a condition where the solvent is lesser than that of solute.
  • All the ideal solutions obey Raoult's Law.

Raoult's law

  • For a dilute solution, Raoult's law states that: "The mole fraction of solute equals the relative decrease in vapor pressure."

Mathematically, it can be represented as:

P°-PP°=XB

Here, P° is the pressure of pure solvent, P is the partial pressure of solution and XB is the mole fraction of solute.
