Question

Why do we use a multiplier with a voltmeter

Open in App
Solution

Voltmeter / Galvanometer: A device used to measure the voltage across the desired points in a circuit

  1. A multiplier is basically a resistor added to the voltmeter in series.
  2. By adding this additional resistor to the circuit we reduce the current sensitivity of the device.
  3. This allows the device to withstand more current.
  4. This helps the circuit to measure higher values of voltage.

Hence, we use a multiplier with a voltmeter.
