Question

Why does current flow from positive to negative?

Open in App
Solution

Explanation

  1. Flow of electrons is termed as current flow.
  2. Direction of the current is always from higher potential to lower potential.
  3. Negative terminal is at lower potential and positive terminal is at higher potential.
  4. Electrons get repulsive force in low electric potential so electrons move away from low electric potential .
  5. Also electrons get attractive force in higher electric potential and get attracted towards higher electric potential.
  6. Hence electrons flow from lower electric potential to higher electric potential. i.e., they move from negative terminal to positive terminal.
  7. So as a result current flows from positive to negative terminal. i.e., opposite to the flow of electrons.
