Question

Why is gravity at the center of earth zero?

Open in App
Solution

Gravity:

  1. The force that pulls a body towards the center of the earth or any other mass-carrying physical body.

Explanation:

  1. The force due to the upper half of the Earth cancels the force due to the lower half at the center of the Earth.
  2. Similarly, any force due to any portion of the Earth at its center will be cancelled by the portion opposite to it.
  3. As a result, the gravitational force at the center of anybody will be zero.
  4. Because we know from Newton's law that F=mg.
  5. Since an object's mass m can never be zero.
  6. As a result, when F=0, gravity (g) must be 0.

Thus, the value of g is zero at the center of the Earth.
