Question

Will ultrasonic waves show any polarization?

Open in App
Solution

Definitions

Polarization:

  1. Polarization is a transverse wave feature that describes the geometrical orientation of the oscillations.
  2. The oscillation direction in a transverse wave is perpendicular to the wave's motion direction.
  3. It can also be defined as the property of EM Waves in which the direction and magnitude of the electric field are connected in a particular way.

Ultrasonic Waves: Ultrasonic are referred to as vibrations or oscillations with a frequency greater than 20KHz. Also, ultrasonic waves are longitudinal in nature.

Explanation

  1. Ultrasonic waves are always longitudinal in nature and polarization is only shown by transverse waves.
  2. Hence, ultrasonic waves do not possess the property of polarization.

The following reason proves that ultrasonic waves will not show any polarization.
