Totipotency of plants:

1. A plant cell is capable of giving rise to a whole plant. This phenomenon is known as totipotency.
2. A whole plant can be regenerated from callus tissue. A callus is composed of an unorganized mass of cells.
3. All plants are not totipotent. Some plant cells may exhibit totipotency under suitable conditions.
4. Totipotency can be induced by phytohormones such as auxin and cytokinin. Auxin promotes root formation, whereas, cytokinin contributes to shoot formation.
