Question

Are bryophytes tall?

Open in App
Solution

Bryophytes

  1. They are non-vascular plants that show alternate gametophytic and sporophytic generations.
  2. They are found in moist and shady places, thus also called amphibians of the plant kingdom.
  3. Bryophytes are not tall. They range from 1 millimeter to 1 meter in their length.
  4. Because bryophytes lack vascular tissues (xylem and phloem), water and nutrients are unable to be transferred over long distances, preventing them from growing tall.
  5. They also lack true roots and stems that provide tall plants with structural support.
  6. Example- mosses, liverworts, etc.
