Question

Are camels uricotelic?

Open in App
Solution

Uricotelic:

  1. Uricotelic organisms are those that emit uric acid as a nitrogenous waste product.
  2. Uric acid excretion is the least hazardous as compared to the other two ammonia and urea thus requiring the least water.
  3. Examples of uricotelic organisms are snakes, lizards, and birds.

Ureotelic:

  1. The organisms that excrete nitrogenous waste in the form of urea are known as ureotelic organisms.
  2. Urea is less harmful as compared to ammonia thus it also requires less water.
  3. Examples of ureotelic creatures include cartilaginous and few bony fish, adult amphibians, and mammals (also including humans).
  4. Camels are ureotelic organisms, not uricotelic organisms.
