  1. It is the gradual changes that occur within a population with time leading to physiological changes which may or may not affect the animal's survivability.
  2. Evolution is a very slow process that may take hundreds and thousands of years to come into effect.
  3. It is directly related to the habitat to which the animal belongs.

Evolution in humans

  1. There are many gradual changes that have taken place since modern man walked on this earth.
  2. Several of these evolutionary changes can be observed and will continue to evolve in the near future.
  3. Although there are no drastic physiological changes in the human body, there have been some small changes like-
  • The enzyme lactase that digests milk is produced even after breastfeeding because of the fact that humans consume milk throughout their life.
  • Changes in sexual development and occurrence of menopause.
  • Adaptation to low oxygen conditions by having a higher RBC count in the blood.
  • Gaining resistance to various diseases naturally or through vaccines.
  • The decline in the overall size of the brain.
