Amino acids

  1. The amino acids that can be converted to acetyl co A are termed ketogenic amino acids.
  2. Ketogenic amino acids are degraded into acetyl CoA or acetoacetyl CoA.
  3. Amino acids can enter the Krebs pathway by this method.
  4. Ex: Amino acids like leucine, lysine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, tryptophan and isoleucine can be converted into acetyl CoA.
  5. Tyrosine is a non-essential amino acid whereas the other amino acids are essential.
