Solution

Aneuploidy

  1. Aneuploidy is the condition of having an abnormal number of chromosomes in a haploid set of chromosomes.
  2. It occurs during cell division where there is no separation of chromosomes in a developing embryo.
  3. These modified chromosomes can be missing, extra, or altered genes that can cause genetic disorders, birth defects, and diseases.
  4. Example- Down's syndrome (due to an extra copy of the 21st chromosome).
  5. Chromosomal abnormalities are permanent and generally can not be reversed.
  6. Genetic counselling, medicines, and physical and occupational therapy can be used to manage symptoms.
