Can plants feel pain?

Open in App
Solution

Plants

  1. Plants lack a brain or nervous system and so they are unable to feel pain.
  2. Although they lack a central nervous system, they have sensory abilities and can respond to external stimuli.
  3. They can respond to gravity (gravitropism), light (phototropism), wind, etc.
  4. Plants can also react to physical touch like the curling of leaves in touch me not plant (Mimosa pudica).
  5. Another example is the release of volatile chemicals by grasses as a defense mechanism when they are being cut down.
