Virus

  1. Viruses are microscopic infectious agents.
  2. They contain either RNA or DNA as genetic material which require a host cell for it to replicate.
  3. Viruses are known for causing diseases in plants, animals, bacteria, fungi, archaea, etc.
  4. Viruses are curicial pathogens that affect the livestock causing diseases like foot and mouth disease and bluetongue.
  5. Pets like cats, dogs, and horses are also infected by virus. Example- parvovirus infections.
  6. Birds are also infected by virus and some of them transmitted to humans. Example- bird flu or avian flu.
  7. Tobacco mosaic virus infects tobacco plants and causes disease in plants.
  8. Bacteriophages affect bacteria whereas mycoviruses infect fungi.
