Tissues:

1. In plants, meristematic tissues, which are a group of similar tissue can divide and form new cells.
2. Meristematic tissues are simple immature cells that have the ability to grow and divide continuously.
3. They are undifferentiated cells that have the ability to divide until they become specialised cells.
4. The meristematic tissues are parent cells from which other types of cells are produced, they are as follows-

Primary meristem:

1. These meristematic tissues are derived directly from the parent meristem.
2. Depending upon their location they can be -apical, intercalary, lateral .
3. Apical meristems- They are present at the tips of roots and branches. They produce growth in length.
4. Intercalary meristem- Intercalary meristems are present in between mature tissues such as at the base of nodes or above the nodes (grasses).
5. Lateral meristem- This meristem occurs on the sides and takes part in increasing the girth of the plant.

Secondary meristem :

1. These meristems are formed secondarily from meristems at later stages.
2. These meristems give rise to secondary tissues that continue secondary growth.
3. The common examples are- vascular cambium of roots and cork cambium in the cortex region.
