Photosynthetic bacteria consist either of single cells or colonies.
They contain only one type of chlorophyll, Chlorophyll (a green pigment), in addition to pigments like carotenoids and phycobilins.
They are more likely to bloom in warm, slow-moving, shallow water.
However, they can also be found below the surface in colder, deeper water.
However, research shows that a diverse range of cyanobacteria (example- Microcystis) can be found in colder, deeper water and even in the polar regions.
