Question

Do Fungi have flagella?

Open in App
Solution

Flagellum :

A flagellum or flagella is a hairy protrusion that provides mobility to a wide spectrum of microbes, including sperm cells of various plants and animals.

Fungi:

  1. The majority of fungi are decomposers that obtain nutrients from dead or decomposing organic materials (usually plants).
  2. Because fungi are non-motile, they do not all have flagella.
  3. Most members of the kingdom Fungi lack flagella at all stages of their life cycle; these structures are completely missing.
  4. The only exception is chytrids, which produce flagellated gametes.
