Question

Do Gymnosperms have veins?

Open in App
Solution

Gymnosperms:

Unlike angiosperms, or flowering plants, whose seeds are enclosed by fully developed ovaries, or fruits, gymnosperms, or any vascular plant, reproduce by the use of an exposed seed, or ovule.

Veins:

  1. Veins, an essential component of plants, serve as a source for the movement of nutrients and minerals in leaves.
  2. When plants in a flower bed are watered, the roots absorb the water and distribute the nutrients to the leaf veins.

Gymnosperms, like most other vascular plants, have vascular tissue in their leaves.

  1. Gymnosperms have a needle or scale-like leaves that are evergreen and may be flat and large.
  2. Parallel venation is common in gymnosperms, with some branching (intercostal) veins.
  3. For example, Microphylls (single unbranched veins) are found in lycophytes, but megaphylls are found in ferns, gymnosperms, and angiosperms (leaves with multiple branched veins).
