Lenticels are small pores present in the stem of the plants which allow gases to pass between the environment and the internal tissue spaces of organs (stems and some fruits).
Functions of lenticels:
Transpiration is the mechanism through which water vapor is lost through the stomata of plants.
They allow oxygen to enter while also allowing carbon dioxide and water vapor to exit.
Lenticels account for up to 22% of transpiration in apple fruit.
