Question

Do viruses meet the 7 characteristics of life?

Open in App
Solution

Virus:

  1. Growing is one of the prerequisites for living entities, whereas viruses do not grow.
  2. This is due to the fact that each virus is produced in a fully developed condition with the sole purpose of replicating itself. Another crucial requirement for life is homeostasis, which viruses lack since they lack organelles that can monitor and control their internal environment.
  3. Virions, on the other hand, exhibit some of the properties of living entities.
  4. They, like cells, are made up of proteins and glycoproteins. They include genetic information in the form of DNA or RNA that can be used to make more viruses.
