Question

Does respiration release energy?

Open in App
Solution

Respiration:

  1. Respiration is the process through which living organisms take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide to release energy.
  2. During respiration, there is a release of carbon-dioxide and water when glucose is broken down in the presence of oxygen.
  3. During this reaction, the energy is released.
  4. This energy is stored in the form of ATP.
  5. In the aerobic respiration process, 36 to 38 ATP molecules are created by breaking down one glucose molecule by glycolysis, Krebs cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation via electron transport chain.
