Parenchyma:

  1. Parenchyma is round or oval-shaped cells with thin walls.
  2. It can be found in the stems, leaves, flowers, fruits, and seeds of plants.
  3. The majority of them have leucoplast and can store food.
  4. Chlorenchyma is a type of parenchyma that contains chloroplast and is involved in photosynthesis.

Functions in which parenchyma participates:

  1. They carry out most metabolic reactions.
  2. They conduct most of the activities that constitute life, such as photosynthesis, respiration, radial transport of water, secretion, excretion, and assimilation.
  3. It stores nutrients and food.
  4. It provides foundation and support.
  5. It involves the development and growth of the plant.
  6. They are also a part of complex permanent tissues. Example: Phloem parenchyma and Xylem parenchyma.
