Solution

Mitochondria:

  1. Mitochondrion (mitochondria) is a membranous structure found in eukaryotic cells.
  2. Its size ranges from 0.5to1.0μm.
  3. This organelle is a "cellular power plant" because it generates cellular energy (ATP), which is used as a source of chemical energy.
  4. In addition, they are involved in signalling, cellular differentiation, cell death, control of the cell cycle, and cell growth.
  5. Human diseases related to mitochondria include mitochondrial disorders, heart disease, and the aging process.

Cristae:

  1. Cristae can be defined by each of the partial divisions generated by the inner membrane infolding in a mitochondrion.
  2. The structure of mitochondria's inner membrane is rather complicated.
  3. It features multiple folds that produce cristae, a layered structure that helps increase the surface area inside the organelle.
  4. The inner membrane's cristae and proteins help in the synthesis of ATP (Adenosine triphosphate) molecules.
