Solution

Bacteria:

  1. Bacteria are microscopic single-celled organisms without a definite nucleus.
  2. They come in a variety of shapes, including spheres, rods, and spirals.
  3. They can be found in almost every environment, including soil, water, organic debris, and animal bodies.

Classification of Bacteria:

  1. On the basis of arrangement and the number of flagella, the bacteria can be classified into four groups.
  2. These are monotrichous , amphitrichous, lophotrichous, and peritrichous.

A. Monotrichous:

  1. There is only one flagellum in monotrichous.
  2. For example, Vibrio cholerae

B. Amphitrichous:

  1. There is only a single flagellum in amphitrichous bacteria but they are found at both ends.
  2. For example, Alcaligenes faecalis

C. Lophotrichous:

  1. In lophotrichous, there are several flagella found as a tuft.
  2. For example, Helicobacter pylori

D. Peritrichous:

  1. In peritrichous, the flagella are distributed all over the cell, but they are not found on the pole.
