How are Bacteriophages cultivated?

Open in App
Solution

Bacteriophages:

Bacteriophages are cultivated in agar or broth in actively growing and young bacterial cells.

Process of Bacteriophage cultivation:

  1. Preparation of agar cultures begins with blending the bacteriophage sample with a cool, liquid agar appropriate for bacterial culture.
  2. Then, quickly, the mixture is poured into a petri dish which has a base of sterile agar
  3. Once hardened, the bacteria in the layer of the top agar grows and reproduces, thus forming an opaque, continuous layer of the lawn.
