How are Golgi bodies formed?

Solution

Golgi Bodies:

  1. Another name for Golgi bodies is Golgi apparatus, Golgi complex, or simply the Golgi.
  2. It is an organelle found in the majority of eukaryotic cells.
  3. It is a component of the cytoplasmic endomembrane system.
  4. It bundles proteins into membrane-bound vesicles inside the cell before delivering them to their destination.

Formation Of Golgi Bodies:

  1. The formation of the Golgi bodies is based on two theories.
  2. The cisternal maturation model and the vesicular shuttle model.
  3. The first model proposes that ER (endoplasmic reticulum) vesicles are delivered to a pre-existing Golgi, which cannot be created from start.
  4. The second hypothesis proposes that ER vesicles merge to produce the Golgi.
  5. Proteins develop and process during this step, resulting in the formation of the next Golgi compartment.
  6. However, recent research suggests that neither of these theories is really accurate.
