How are seedless fruits formed?

Open in App
Solution

Parthenocarpy

  1. Parthenocarpy is the process of the development of fruit without fertilization.
  2. It can occur either naturally or can also be artificially induced.
  3. There is no union of the male and female gametes in plants so the fruits which develop through parthenocarpy lack seeds.
  4. The process produces a normal fruit but it is sterile and seedless.
  5. Examples of parthenocarpic fruits are bananas, grapes, cucumber, etc.
  6. Thus, seedless fruits are formed by parthenocarpy.
