Question

How do I increase the production of algae?

Open in App
Solution

Algae:

  1. They are unicellular to multicellular plants that live in freshwater, saltwater, and damp environments and range in size from microscopic phytoplankton to massive marine kelp.
  2. Algae contain chlorophyll, the green pigment required for photosynthesis, as well as additional pigments that mask the green color.

Increasing the production of algae:

  1. Micronutrients can help algae grow faster. Algae grow faster when all of the micronutrients they require are available.
  2. Nutrients are important in water quality for a variety of reasons, the most common of which is algal growth.
  3. Phosphorus and nitrogen are two of the most important nutrients for algal growth (though carbon, silicon, or light limitations may play a role).
