Solution

Morphology of Escherichia coli:

  1. It is commonly found in the lower intestine of our digestive system.
  2. It is a rod-shaped bacteria.
  3. It is about 2.0 μm long and 0.25–1.0 μm in diameter.
  4. Its envelope is composed of 3 layers – peptidoglycan, cytoplasmic membrane, and outer membrane.
  5. It is a Gram-negative bacteria.
  6. So, during the staining, E. coli picks up the colour of the counterstain safranin and stains pink.
