How do you know if your ECG is abnormal?

Open in App
Solution

ECG:

An electrocardiogram, or an ECG is a test used to measure the electrical activity of the heart at rest. It helps in identifying heart ailments.

Abnormalities of ECG:

Abnormalities in ECG may be caused due to:

  1. Irregular heart rhythm
  2. Abnormalities in the shape of the heart
  3. Heart attack
  4. High blood pressure
  5. Medication side effects
  6. Electrolyte imbalances

Oftentimes, you might only know if something is wrong with your heart if you undergo an ECG test. However, seek emergency medical help in certain conditions such as atrial fibrillation, which can exhibit obvious symptoms such as:

  1. A fluttering or “thumping” feeling in the chest.
  2. Chest pain or discomfort
  3. Dizziness
  4. General fatigue
  5. Anxiety and shortness of breath
  6. Fatigue during exercise
