Vernalization is the process of exposing plants or seeds to cold temperatures in order to promote flowering or increase seed output.
Flowering can be encouraged to occur sooner than normal or in warm settings missing the requisite seasonal chilling by satisfying the chilly requirement of many temperate zone (found in cooler areas) plants. -
Vernalization requirements:
A 50-day therapy at a low temperature between 2°C and 12°C is required.
In the case of water plants, appropriate hydration (moisture) is required for the plants to get the stimulus from cold temperatures.
The seeds must be hydrated before being exposed to low temperatures, as dry seeds will not work.
