  2. An unripe fruit has a low concentration of ethylene.
  3. As the fruit starts ripening, the concentration of ethylene increases.
  4. Ethylene increases the respiration rate of ripened fruit.
  5. This is called respiratory climactic.
  6. Externally applied ethylene also increases the rate of ripening of fruits.
