  1. Insulin is a peptide hormone or protein hormone.
  2. Insulin is synthesized by the beta cells of islets of Langerhans present in the endocrine part of the pancreas.
  3. Insulin plays a very crucial role in maintaining the glucose level in the body.
  4. It is said to be one of the major anabolic hormones of the body.

Role of insulin in metabolism of the body:

  1. Insulin functions in regulating the metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
  2. It mainly does the work of absorbing glucose from the blood and giving it to the adipocytes (fat cells), hepatocytes (liver cells), and skeletal muscle cells.
