Mitosis:

  1. Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, and cytokinesis are all stages of mitosis, in which a single cell divides into two identical daughter cells (cell division).

The function of Mitosis:

  1. Mitosis aids in cell proliferation, tissue healing, and regeneration. Various cells have a shorter lifespan and must be replaced on a regular basis. Cellular tissues will quickly degrade if mitosis is not performed.
  2. We can develop, repair wounds, and replace damaged cells because of mitosis. Mitosis is especially vital in asexually reproducing organisms because it is the sole way for these cells to replicate. This is the only method that keeps asexual creature populations alive.
  3. Asexual Reproduction: Mitosis is the process through which a single-celled creature, such as an amoeba, reproduces. Many cells within a complex organism, such as a human, generate new cells through asexual reproduction. Prophase, prometaphase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase are the five distinct phases of mitosis.
  4. Plants and animals expand in size as they get older. Mitosis produces the cells required to increase the body's mass as well as additional cells to cope with the expansion, such as extra blood cells. It's worth noting that not all human cells go through mitosis or other forms of reproduction. Nerve and muscle cells, on the other hand, do not. The body does not have a need to make more nerve and muscle cells after it has produced enough.
  5. Tissue Repair: When an organism is harmed, the destroyed cells are replaced via mitosis. This is especially true for skin and blood arteries, which protect and oxygenate the body's muscles and organs. Mitosis also aids in the replacement of blood lost as a result of a wound. Mitosis can replace entire missing limbs such as tails or legs in some creatures, such as lizards.
  6. Mitosis Mistakes: Because mitosis is so critical to the body's repair and proliferation of cells, any abnormalities that arise are serious. Cancer is a severe complication of defective mitosis.
  7. During the mitotic process, DNA mutations can occur, and if they aren't discovered, malignant cells can develop. Errors in mitosis can also occur during the development of a foetus, resulting in chromosomal abnormalities.
