How does the triplet code work?

Open in App
Solution

Triplet code:

  1. Triplet code is present on mRNA, which codes for a specific amino acid in the protein.
  2. During the process of translation, tRNA (Transfer RNA) reads or identifies the codon and carries the amino acid according to that and forms a peptide chain.
  3. For different codons, different tRNA exist.
  4. A total of 61 types of codons are found on mRNA and codes for 20 different amino acids.
  5. Some amino acids are coded by only one codon while some are coded by multiple codons.
  6. Codons are universal.
