How does variation occur?

Open in App
Solution

Variation:

  1. Variation is the difference in the genotypes between organisms of the same group.
  2. Genetic variation is generated as a result of processes such as sexual reproduction, mutations in the DNA sequence, and gene flow in populations.
  3. Mutations in the DNA sequences result in genetic variations that may or may not be beneficial to the organisms.
  4. Gene flow introduces new genes into the population and thus gives rise to new genetic combinations.
  5. Variations are created during sexual reproduction due to the crossing over of homologous chromosomes during meiosis.
