  3. The cephalic phase is the first step, which occurs when stomach juices are released in reaction to the smell and sight of food.
  4. The stomach phase of digestion is included in the second stage, and the intestinal phase of digestion is included in the third stage.
  5. Digestion is a type of catabolism that is based on the mechanical and chemical breakdown of food.
  6. The physical breakdown of big chunks of food into smaller fragments that digestive enzymes can access is known as mechanical digestion.
  7. During the chemical digestion process, enzymes break down the complex meal into smaller molecules.
  8. When food enters the human body, it undergoes mechanical digestion, which is followed by mastication and saliva contact wetting.
  9. Saliva lubricates the meal and aids in the digestion of carbohydrates.
