Systemic vascular resistance:

  1. The left ventricle's ability to empty itself is impacted by changes in the arterioles, which are reflected by systemic vascular resistance (SVR).
  2. Hypothermia, hypovolemia, syndromes of poor cardiac output, and stress reaction are among the conditions that might raise SVR.
  3. Anaemia, cirrhosis, neurogenic shock, anaphylactic shock, and vasodilation are among the ailments that might lower SVR.

SVR determination:

  1. SVR is computed by dividing the cardiac output by 80, multiplying the result by the right atrial pressure (RAP) or central venous pressure (CVP) difference from the mean arterial pressure (MAP).
  2. 700 to 1,500 dynes/seconds/cm-5 is the typical SVR.
