Amino acids :

  1. Amino acids are molecules that combine to create proteins.
  2. Amino acids and proteins are the building blocks of life.
  3. When proteins are digested or counteracted, amino acids are left. The body uses amino acids to form proteins to assist the body.
  4. Amino acids can even be used as a source of energy by the body.

Order and Sequence of Amino acids in Proteins:

  1. Each protein or peptide consists of a linear sequence of amino acids.
  2. The protein’s primary structure conventionally begins at the amino-terminal (N) end and continues until the carboxyl-terminal (C) end.
  3. The process of determining the organic compound sequence is understood as protein sequencing.
  4. The sequence of a protein is typically notated as a string of letters, per the order of the amino acids from the amino-terminal to the carboxyl-terminal of the protein.
  5. There are 20 amino acids that occur naturally in nature, which might be represented by a 3 or single-letter code as follows:

  1. Alanine (Ala, A)
  2. Arginine (Arg, R)
  3. Asparagine (Asn, N)
  4. Aspartic acid (Asp, D)
  5. Cysteine (Cys, C)
  6. Glutamic acid (Glu, E)
  7. Glutamine (Gln, Q)

Methods of Protein Sequencing :

There are two main methods accustomed to finding the Amino acid sequences in proteins. Mass spectrometry is the most typical method in use today due to its simple use. Edman degradation employing a protein sequenator is the second method, which is most useful if the N-terminus of a protein has to be characterized.
