Vestigial structures:

  1. The structures which are present in our body but do not have any function are referred to as vestigial structures.
  2. Those structures were functional in the ancestors but during evolution, they lost their use.
  3. Examples: human appendix, wings of flightless birds, etc.
  4. It has been found that these vestigial structures are homologous to the feature found in related species, which are functional.
