  1. The immature female reproductive cells are referred to as oogonia.
  2. After ongoing mitosis these oogonia give rise to primary oocytes.
  3. Oogonia have a very small amount of cytoplasm and a large central nucleus.
  4. Oogonia are formed from the primitive female germ cells.
  5. Primitive germ cells undergo the process of oogenesis to form oogonia.
  6. During the fetal stage oogonia is formed, no new oogonia are formed and added after birth.
  7. Oogonia are diploid and thus, have 46 chromosomes.
